Two by Two

Recently I was at a second-hand store for kids and spied Two by Two by Barbara Reid.  I was stunned to realize that we didn’t have any of her books in our (considerable) library of kids’ books.  Most particularly I was suprised because when I was growing up, Reid’s books were some of my favourites.  I mean, you’d have to be a particularly nasty kind of curmudgeonly snob to suggest that her artwork isn’t simply amazing! And it’s all done with plasticine! Just look:

I could stare at that picture for hours.  But Two by Two is by no means unique in the quality of plasticine illustrations. Check this one out from The New Baby Calf:

Or even this poster she did to promote reading:

A brief list of some of her books you could be on the look out for: Perfect Snow, The Subway Mouse, The Party, Sing a Song of Mother Goose, The New Baby Calf, and the Zoe Board Books. The stories are good, but the pictures steal the show! For a gallery of her work, click here.
